Fire District #9, based in Campti, purchased a new set of Jaws of Life.
Fire Chief Doug Rachal said this new power unit for the Jaws of Life can run several rescue tools at one time, supplementing the older power unit that could only run one rescue tool at a time.
"This will save time because the unit will not need to be shut down to change tools at an incident," Rachal said.
Fire Dist. #9 has seen an increase call volume involving vehicle extrications. This prompted the Board of Directors to approve the purchase. The station is the only fire district north of the Red River Bridge in Natchitoches Parish that houses rescue equipment and will respond to any incident location when called upon.
