Fire District personnel participated in training hosted by LSU-Fire and Emergency Training Institute, located at Natchitoches Trade School – Fire Training Grounds. This training (RIT) Rapid Intervention Team, is designed to teach firefighters the necessary fundamentals to rescue a downed firefighter. The firefighter also learns the importance of bunker gear, rescue techniques, and firefighter survival. The class consisted of 1 Night of Classroom time, along with 2 Nights of skills practice utilizing an 18-wheeler that had been fitted with various internal compartments, obstacles, that the firefighter must navigate through and locate and disentangle a downed firefighter, all with full bunker gear and a smoke filled environment. This was some excellent training and we greatly appreciate LSU for making this training available to the fire district.
